The program fee for my internship in Uganda is nearly $8000. This may seem quite expensive (and it is, a bit) but the cost of living in Africa is higher than many assume, and it also covers a variety of other things such as:
- family homestay (room and board) for 6 months
- in-country transportation
- orientation and orientation accommodation
- midterm retreat
- educational sessions and workshops
- field trips
- debriefing sessions
- emergency medical insurance
- pre-departure materials and resources as well as resources on the ground
- basic language instruction during orientation week
- a $300 seed grant for my organization to support my projects, with the opportunity to apply for a further $800
- ongoing administration and support from FSD
- the opportunity to learn in a hands-on environment about international development from a trusted provider
A large portion of the money will go directly to local Ugandans: to my homestay family, the communities the NGO reaches, and the local staff who will provide logistical support throughout my stay.
Thank you to everyone for your support and I hope you'll tag along with me through this blog so you can see what a difference you have made!
